Botox is one of the most common aesthetic treatments used to prevent and address mild facial wrinkles. Botox is injected into a patient’s muscles to temporarily improve the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and a variety of other areas. If you’re considering this treatment, let’s go over what to do after Botox and what NOT to do after Botox injections!

What To Do After Botox:

  1. For optimal results, for the remainder of the day after botox injections, the muscles in the treatment area should be contracted periodically in order to work the Botox into the muscle - e.g., smile, squint, etc.
  2. If you experience any pain, Tylenol may be used for pain management.
  3. Ice may be used gently for swelling or discomfort.

What Not To Do After Botox:

  1. Do not apply makeup the same day as your botox injections.
  2. Do not lie down, rub, touch, or manipulate injection areas for 6 hours. Lying down may cause the medication to migrate.
  3. Do not take aspirin for pain relief (if needed, use Tylenol).
  4. Do not participate in activities that include vigorous exercise, heavy lifting, or straining for 24 hours after botox injections.
  5. Do not apply products that are potentially irritating (Retin-A, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, etc) for 1-2 days. Perform a spot test prior to using these products by applying a small amount to the treated area, if there is any irritation, remove product and perform another test spot in 24-48 hours. Resume products when there is no sense of irritation.
