What is an Arm Lift?

A Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a procedure that reduces excess hanging skin and helps to reduce fatty deposits to reveal more toned, proportionate, youthful arms. Liposuction is commonly used in conjunction with an arm lift to reduce excess fat. It's common for a patient's soft tissue to become lax over time which leads to hanging skin underneath the arm. Oftentimes, patients feel self-conscious about the droopy skin underneath their arm and turn to an Arm Lift surgery for results. Choose an Arm Lift in Orlando with our team of board-certified plastic surgeons.

Who Is A Good Arm Lift Candidate?

Plastic surgery should always be a personal decision that is not influenced by the opinions of others. Patients must be in good health to be considered for this procedure. If you'd like to find out for sure if you'd be a good candidate for an arm lift Orlando plastic surgeons at Vado Plastic Surgery can address that and any other questions you have during an initial consultation. If you identify with any of the following, then you may be a good candidate for an arm lift:

  • Currently at a stable weight and physically healthy with no medical conditions that impair healing
  • Recently lost a lot of weight and are left with sagging skin underneath arms
  • As you have aged, the skin underneath your arms has begun to sag
  • You are self-conscious about your hanging skin under your arms

How Long Is Arm Lift Recovery?

Following your Orlando arm lift surgery, you may experience swelling, bruising, or pain that can be treated with pain medicine prescribed by your plastic surgeon. Typically, patients will need at least 1 week off from work and must avoid any cardiovascular activity or heavy lifting (>5lbs) for 4-6 weeks after their arm lift surgery.

It is important to understand that your exact recovery time depends on the extent of your procedure and how your body responds to the surgery. Our team will guide you through your recovery process with post-op instructions in order to ensure a safe and smooth recovery. We also have a 24-hour emergency line if you need to get in contact with one of our nurses during your recovery process.

Incisions

Arm lift scar placement is either on the posterior aspect of the arm from the elbow to armpit area OR on the inferior aspect of the arm from the elbow to the armpit area so it is hidden when the arms are outstretched and from behind. Sometimes, the scar can extend past the armpit and into the bra area as determined by the surgeon at the time of consultation. All scars take a full year to completely mature and scar placement depends on the plastic surgeon.

Are There Different Arm Lift Techniques?

There are two techniques for a Brachioplasty: An upper arm lift and a mini arm lift. Your plastic surgeon will determine which of these techniques best suits you:

Upper Arm Lift: This procedure targets skin hanging up the upper arm by creating an incision that runs along your arm. The size of the incision will be based on the amount of skin that needs to be removed and the location of the targeted skin. Typically, the incision stretches from your armpit to your elbow and will either be a Z or U-shaped line. In severe cases, the incision will stretch from your armpit to the side of your chest.

Mini Arm Lift: This procedure is for patients that simply want to reduce a small amount of hanging skin underneath the arm. Because this is a less extensive surgery than the upper arm lift, the incision is much smaller. Typically, the incision will be located in the armpit to minimize any scarring.
